Equality statement

Queen Margaret Primary Academy recognises and celebrates diversity, including that which exists within our student and staff populations and the communities we serve.

This links into our academy values of community and to our curriculum intention where we recognise the importance of place, self and agency in navigating the world. We strive to develop self-belief in our students so that they can take their rightful place in the great conversations of humanity.

We emphasis kindness, empathy and mutual respect. We make it clear that we are moral and therefore challenge injustice in a constructive way when we see it. We are curious so we want to find out more about the world and celebrate the differences that make us such a strong community.

We are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of gender, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, marital status, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion or belief. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life.

We will tackle discrimination by the positive promotion of equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes and creating an environment which champions respect for all.

The pursuit of the EDI agenda is a continuous process and our next objectives in 2022-23 are:

  • Develop a specific EDI strategy in line with our EDI policy that accelerates our inclusion agenda.
  • Deliver excellent staff and governor training on the design, enactment and delivery of embedded EDI.
  • Embed data and quality assurance system that view the school through the lens of EDI.
  • Ensure explicit teaching and understanding of EDI is embedded into the curriculum. Excellence in EDI is promoted in our wider curriculum, e.g. enrichment, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC) and British values.

If you are interested in contributing positively to our EDI strategy, particularly if you represent any of our community groups, please do get in touch via [email protected]
