Our Outreach work happens in the child’s mainstream school. This way of working is highly effective as it impacts school wide practices, which means that many other children across the school reap the benefit.
The success of working in this way, keeping the child in their school, is evident from their increased engagement and decrease in exclusions. Many of the children referred to us are at risk of PEX, and this program is decreasing that risk, and preventing it.
We deliver a high-quality school outreach program to support children with SEMH as their primary need. We work effectively with schools to help prevent exclusions and support them to make changes to their practice and provision to successfully meet their needs. We want these children to be integrated in school life and experience success in their mainstream class.

Programme Intent
- Identifying and providing for the needs underpinning the behaviour
- Re-engaging the pupil in positive learning experiences
- Improving knowledge and skills of school staff to support pupils’ long-term provision
Referral process
Referrals are ongoing so the start and end times will vary. Referrals for Outreach can be made at any time of the year using the Outreach referral form.
Prior to making a referral, the school needs to consider the following:
- Is the pupil at risk of significant failure to engage with learning experiences and/or had, or at risk of, repeated fixed term exclusions?
- Has the pupil received a graduated response with good teaching and SEND provision?
- Are you, as a setting, committed to engaging with the outreach team and putting strategies and interventions in place that will support the inclusion of this
